MEET YUNG-WU

Yung-wu is a self-taught abstract artist based in the Hudson Valley. Heavily influenced by her South Korean heritage and NYC upbringing, her work centers around the exploration of identity and fluidity of memory. Each work is created intuitively, utilizing a variety of unconventional tools, such as cardboard, battery packaging, and other found objects. Her process is a balance of spontaneity and intentionality, taking in the moment and translating that onto canvas.

“Making abstract art doesn’t always come naturally and I have to regularly loosen up in between making larger works - especially if they’re for a show or a commission. Intuitive color play and mark-making is a gentle reminder to incorporate a bit play in all that I do.”

Yung-wu is currently represented by Eleventh Hour Art Gallery in Brooklyn.
