  • Extends your color further without affecting acrylic stability
  • Maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality

How To Use
  • Mix as much as you like into acrylic color to create the viscosity and transparency you want - the more you add, the thinner and more transparent your color will become
  • Can be thinned by diluting with up to 25% water - distilled water will give best results
  • Stir gently to avoid creating foam - if bubbles appear, leave it to sit while the bubbles rise and disappear

Lightfastness | How long will it resist fading?

  • Each pigment is rated on scale by the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). Liquitex paints are all rated ASTM I (excellent) or II (very good) and considered permanent and lightfast for 50-100+ years in gallery conditions. Our metallic and fluorescent colors are naturally less lightfast.

Opacity/Transparency | We communicate opacity/transparency clearly on our packaging based on three categories:

  • Opaque: these colors do not allow light to pass through the color layer and offer the best coverage or hiding power.
  • Semi-opaque: these allow for some light to pass through the color layer and sit between opaque and transparent colors
  • Transparent: these colors offer the least coverage and allow light to pass through the color layer to the surface below.
  • Series:
Pigments come from a variety of sources and have different prices according to their rarity, processing and milling costs. We group our colors into a 'series' pricing structure according to how much each one takes to make. Series 1 colors contain the most inexpensive pigments, while Series 4 and 5 color contain the most expensive pigments.

MEET LIQUITEX BIO-BASED HEAVY ACRYLIC

WHAT DOES BIO-BASED MEAN?

Let’s dive in. The resin base of a typical pro acrylic medium is made from 100% petrol-derived ingredients sourced from fossil fuels and other non-renewable substances. For Liquitex Bio-Based we’ve halved this, replacing ingredients with ones from renewable, biological sources. These come from living or once-living organisms like corn, soy, sugarcane and algae which can be regrown or replenished relatively quickly through natural or farming processes.

As well as the resin, every other ingredient that has a bio-based alternative has been replaced and we’ve avoided any components or pigments derived from animals. As more bio-based ingredients become available, we’ll incorporate them.
